We meet on Tuesdays (September to May) from 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Assembly begins at noon, and classes go from 12:15- 4:30. All families are assigned a duty to help clean up and put the church back in order once classes end.
LHE is dependent on the FULL participation of each member. By signing up, you are committing to be here EVERY Tuesday. We are not a drop off education center; we expect and need our parents to take an active role in the running of the co-op! We encourage most parents to lead teach at least one class in order for LHE to operate. You are also needed to assistant teach your other hours as needed. We work together by assigning cleanup, setup or breakdown duties in order for the church who so graciously hosts us to be kept in optimal condition.
We do understand that emergencies or unavoidable absences happen, and we extend grace for those times. But we do expect every family to take the commitment of being part of the co-op seriously.
Yes! Safety is important to us and our families. A Criminal Records and Identification Division General Information form is required for each family member (years 18+) who will be participating in LHE. This background check will determine membership qualification.
Lucent Home Educators is for the entire family! We have classes for children from babies in the nursery to seniors in high school. We do not offer an invitation to you and your family unless we have room for all of your children.
When a 7th-12 grade student is signed up for a homework or graded class, the parent and the student understand the teacher in the class has authority over how the work should be completed. This includes the proctoring of tests, homework assignments, and grading. If you require your student to take a class for a credit, they must abide by the leadership-approved syllabus.
Our elementary classes will have occasional homework assignments, as well as projects for end of year displays. Our teachers at all grade levels devote their time to giving their best to their classes, and we expect families - students as well as parents - to appreciate and respect the time they put into preparing those lessons by completing and preparing the work assigned.
We are a Christ led cooperative and believe in the value of leading with the love of Jesus Christ. Because of this, our leadership team, as well as all class coordinators and lead teachers, must sign a statement of faith. Members do not have to be christians, but we do require a signed covenant that you are willing to come under the Christ led leadership while you attend.
Yearly tuition is $300 per family. We require every family to pay a $50 nonrefundable deposit to secure membership for the coming school year. The deposit goes toward your tuition balance. We do not offer refunds of any amount after August 1. Tuition must be paid in full before you can register your jr/sr high students for their classes. If you do not have a child in 7-12th grades, payments may be made in installments over the course of the summer. Payment must be made in full before the first day of classes in September. LHE does not provide scholarships; however, we keep our tuition low hoping to assist all of our families financially.
Lucent Home Educators admits families and their children of any race and grant all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to participants at the co-op. LHE does not discriminate on the basis of race in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and other school-administered programs.
